Prosecutors are seeking to play a Lil Durk music video at his upcoming murder-for-hire trial as part of their evidence.

They have filed several motions, including a request to present Durk’s “Pissed Me Off” music video to the jury. This has been proposed to support their argument that Durk would avenge King Von.

In a hearing on Monday, both prosecution and defense teams submitted a series of motions leading up to the trial. A key point for prosecutors is the music video from Durk’s 2021 track on the album “7220”, released after the death of his friend and fellow OTF artist King Von.

They argue that lyrics from the song, which they see as retaliatory, are pertinent to the case. Lil Durk is alleged to have hired five individuals to kill Quando Rondo in response to King Von’s death, which occurred when Von was shot by Rondo’s associate Timothy Leeks in 2020.

The lyrics in question include references to deadly retribution if a main target isn’t reachable, reflecting a willingness to act violently. The music video further portrays Durk with large amounts of cash and gestures mimicking shooting.

Durk’s defense team argues against using his lyrics and music videos in court, claiming these works are creative expressions and not admissions of guilt. They have also filed a motion to suppress evidence from a cellphone, asserting it was seized and searched illegally.

Several motions from both sides are set for review on August 13 before Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald, with the trial slated to commence on August 20.
