Rick Ross has scored a significant legal development after prosecutors dropped the felony charge against him in a domestic violence case.
However, the Rick Ross battery case is far from over, as the Miami rapper still faces misdemeanor charges stemming from allegations made by his former girlfriend.
According to court documents reported on October 30, prosecutors declined to pursue the felony battery-by-strangulation charge, citing insufficient evidence. Ross, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts II, still faces a misdemeanor domestic violence battery charge and has pleaded not guilty.
The decision represents a major change in the case, but it does not amount to a complete legal victory or an exoneration.
Rick Ross Still Faces Serious Allegations
The case stems from an alleged August 28 incident at Ross’ Star Island residence in Miami Beach. His former girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick, reportedly told police that an argument involving a photograph on social media escalated into physical violence.
According to the police report, Kendrick alleged that Ross struck her several times, restricted her breathing by pulling the collar of her hoodie, and slammed her against a wall.
Ross has strongly denied the accusations, previously describing them as fabricated and insisting that he is innocent.
His attorney has also challenged the evidence supporting the original felony charge, welcoming prosecutors’ decision not to pursue the strangulation allegation.
The Legal Fight Is Not Over For Rick Ross
Despite the dropped felony charge, the remaining misdemeanor case means Ross must still defend himself in court.
The distinction matters. Prosecutors declining to pursue a particular charge because of insufficient evidence is not the same as a court finding that the alleged incident never happened.
For the Maybach Music Group founder, the legal controversy arrives at a time when his public image and business interests remain firmly in the spotlight.
Ross has maintained his innocence, while Kendrick has not issued a further public statement about the latest development.
For now, the headline may be that Rick Ross avoided a felony charge, but the bigger story is that his legal battle is still unfolding.
