Former Bad Boy rapper Loon has been released from federal prison due to the coronavirus pandemic after serving eight years for his role in a heroin-dealing conspiracy.
US District Judge Terrence Boyle granted him an early release claiming the virus was an “extraordinary and compelling” reason and that he was not a danger to society.
Although reported differently, there is no indication that Donald Trump had anything to do with his release, but Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, Benzino, and more celebrities lobbied to free Loon.
Loon walked away from the music industry in 2008 and converted to Islam, three years before getting indicted. In 2011, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison for conspiracy to distribute more than one kilogram of heroin. He declined to go to trial and decided to please guilty for his “minor role” in a drug trafficking scheme in North Carolina. He continued to maintain his innocence.
