Lana Del Rey and Quavo’s genre-blending collabo track, “Tough,” is finally here.
After months of teasing “Tough” on Instagram, the superstar duo has released the long-awaited trap-country song in tandem with its music video, which proves the duo is a rock-solid sonic pair.
“Tough like the scuff on a pair of old leather boots/ Like the blue-collar, red-dirt attitude/ Like a .38 made out of brass/ Tough like the stuff in your grandpa’s glass,” the two croon on the chorus.
“Tell me how it’s hard for you/ Like a nickel on strings and your good old Gibson guitar,” the duo trade off on the single’s second verse. “Like the songs that your mama sing to you/ And the way that it makes you tell the truth/ If you come from where you come, then you were born tough.”
Quavo delivers the first verse in front of his four wheels. “Come on, take a ride with me/ Like the 808s beatin’ in the trunk in Atlanta, it was tough (It was kinda hard for me).” Adding, “Crawlin’ through the mud, I couldn’t find love, then we came up (Look at where we are, baby)/ Standin’ through the storm, still shinin’ like a diamond in the rough (Still shinin’).”
The cinematic visual was directed by Wyatt Spain Winfrey and marks Quavo and Lana Del Rey‘s first-ever collab.
The duo recently debuted “Tough” live during Lana Del Rey’s performance at Boston’s Fenway Park last month. It’s unclear if the song is set to appear on Lana Del Rey’s next album.
