Popular Houston rapper Slim Thug shared a controversial remark on Instagram that he “doesn’t like that Jewish people own Black music.”
According to the southern entertainer, Jewish people own their music and culture and Black people should be allowed to do the same.
Slim suggested that Canadian rapper Drake, whose father is Black and whose mother is a Canadian Ashkenazi Jew, was controlled by Jewish people.
“Jewish people should own Drake. Drake is Jewish. Jewish people should own Jewish music. I don’t like that Jewish people own Black music. I don’t want Jewish people who are not a part of the culture to own the culture. I want only Black people to own Black music,” Slim Thug explains in the video.
The 43-year-old artist continues, “Until we fix that, I don’t like it. If you ain’t Jewish, why the f*ck you own a Jewish rapper’s music? If you don’t listen to that sh-t, why you own that? Nah, we not on that. We need to take the culture back. While these Black people broke, we need to own our music.”
Slim Thug mentioned Dame Dash as someone he admired who fought against non-Black executives having a say over what happens with Black music.
“We don’t want people culture vulturing us. We going at all the culture vultures,” he said. “That’s why tried to push Dame Dash to the side. Dame Dash was right — he was standing on business.”
