For years, the Chicago Police Department has been investigating the death of 17-year-old Gakirah Barnes. Barnes was a member of the Gangster Disciples before she was fatally shot nine times and killed in Chicago in 2014. Although Barnes was a teenager, she had already made a reputation for herself, believing to have killed over a dozen people. Following Barnes’s death, there were conversations about who the hooded figure was that shot her.
Now, Chicago police have confirmed that late rapper King Von was responsible for the murder of the 17-year-old teen. The documents share that Von was a member of the Black Disciples and witnesses reported seeing the late rapper hoodied up before allegedly killing Barnes.
Police state that the investigation, “revealed that the victim was killed by Dayvon Bennett,” which is King Von’s government name. Although King Von was named as the “offender” police say there wasn’t enough evidence to tie the killing to King Von, causing the rapper to be free of charges.
An unknown M/1 wearing a Grey Hoodie and Blue jeans approached the victims. The unknown offender then produced a handgun and began firing in the direction of the victims, striking all three. The unknown offender then was observed entering an unknown vehicle making good his escape.
The CCSAO reviewed the investigation and concurred that BENNETT was positively identified as the offender in the incident and felt that they would be unable to meet the burden of proof in court and formally Rejected charges…It should be noted Dayvon BENNETT was charged with First Degree Murder recorded under HX 281542 in that he shot and killed Malcolm STUCKEY (No IR) on 29 May 14.
According to this Chicago Tribune report, Barnes was one of four people killed after 36 people were shot in a 36-hour period. Ironically, Barnes allegedly bragged about being 17 and catching 17 bodies.
