Fresh off of being named Spotify’s most-streamed artist for the third year in a row, Bad Bunny is now caught up in controversy after a viral video displaying him throwing a fan’s cellphone into water surfaced.
Making the rounds on social media, the Puerto Rican artist is seen strolling the streets surrounded by his crew. For a quick second, a fan is seen rushing beside him with a cellphone in hand, filming herself while making an attempt to get near the artist to make sure that they’re both in frame. Bad Bunny is then seen grabbing the cellphone and throwing it towards a close-by body of water.
Many have criticized Bad Bunny for how he dealt with the situation, while others noted how the fan was overzealous and violated his private space.
Taking to Twitter, Bad Bunny addressed the situation, providing an evidence for his actions.
“The person who comes up to me to say hello, to tell me something, or just to meet me, will always receive my attention and respect,” he wrote in the tweet. Noting a “lack of respect” as the reason for interactions where people just “put a phone…in my face.”
