Kendrick Lamar has etched his name in history at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, officially becoming the most awarded rapper in the history of the Recording Academy.

Heading into the ceremony with nine nominations, the Compton artist secured enough wins to surpass JAY-Z’s previous record of 25 Grammys. This milestone cements Lamar’s status as a generational voice, underscored further by his commanding presence in this year’s rap and melodic categories.

The historic achievement was driven by the success of Lamar’s 2024 album, “GNX”. At the 2026 Grammys, held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Lamar began his winning streak during the pre-show ceremony, earning accolades like Best Melodic Rap Performance for the track “luther” featuring SZA, and Best Rap Performance for his collaboration on “Chains & Whips” with Clipse and Pharrell Williams.

His triumph continued during the main event, where he claimed the coveted award for Best Rap Album.

During his acceptance speech, Lamar displayed his trademark humility, highlighting his unwavering commitment to his art and the cultural resonance of hip-hop. He clarified that his focus remains on the music above all else, though he acknowledged that such recognition reflects his decade-long consistency and impact.

With a career total of 26 Grammy wins, Lamar not only surpasses Jay-Z but also maintains his distance from Ye, who holds 24 awards.
