Exploring new music is one of the most exciting aspects of being a music enthusiast. Unlike the standard playlists that often repeat familiar chart-toppers, some of the most talented artists in the industry remain underappreciated.

These rising talents are steadily growing dedicated followings, releasing exceptional work, and carving their own paths. By staying independent, they’re often crafting even better music as a result.

This list is developed in association with Urban Threshold, the driving force behind the legendary Underground Music Awards and The A&R Power Summit. Urban Threshold is a brand known for spotlighting rising stars before they break into the mainstream.

ASHWIN GANE

Ashwin Gane is rapidly solidifying his place as one of Rolling Stone’s Top 10 Artists to Watch in 2026, not just for his genre-defying cinematic trap sound but also for high-visibility collaborations and major live performances; he’s teamed with respected figures like Lil Reese, Detroit heavyweights Icewear Vezzo, Peezy, and Payroll Giovanni, and worked behind the boards with legendary producers including Scott Storch and ATL Jacob, while co-writing with Grammy-linked songwriter Poo Bear.

His 2025 single β€œFlip Dat,” featuring Detroit rap standout Babyface Ray, has become a defining moment in his career, showcasing his noir-inspired storytelling and expanding his audience. On the live front, Gane has brought his music to some of the biggest stages in sports and entertainment, performing at the NBA primetime Lakers vs. Clippers game at the Intuit Dome, delivering a set at the NFL season opener at SoFi Stadium, and seeing his tracks like β€œOutside” energize NBA arenas.

Ashwin Gane has collaborated with legendary producer Scott Storch on multiple tracks, including the January 2026 release “DND” and the song “Got It.”

In 2025, Brute Camp expanded their influence with the launch of β€œI Got Bars,” an artist-first platform for rap and R&B talent that challenges industry gatekeeping and prioritizes originality over commercial formulas. By combining hard-earned credibility, deep community roots, and a forward-thinking vision, Brute Camp stands as a powerful force shaping the future of hip-hop and a standout selection for the Top Artists to Watch for 2026.

TINA DIMPLES

Rising Dancehall powerhouse Tina Dimples is continuing her upward trajectory with a powerful run of releases that bridge 2025 into an explosive 2026. In 2025, she made a major impact with the release of her single and music video β€œRich,” a bold, high-energy anthem celebrating confidence, culture, and self-worth. The cinematic visual generated strong buzz across digital platforms and social media, sparked dance challenges, and positioned her as one of Dancehall’s most fearless emerging voices.

Building on that momentum, Tina Dimples kicked off 2026 with the February 6 release of β€œBad Gyal” featuring Canadian Dancehall artist Fully-Bad, followed by a vibrant music video on February 16 that further amplified her commanding presence. She also added fuel to the fire with β€œMoney Flex” on the trending WYFL rhythm, produced by DJ Mac, reinforcing her consistency and dominance within the Dancehall community.

BLACK LION SOCIETY

Detroit’s own Black Lion Society (BLS), the powerhouse duo of Big S.C.A.M and Jake Diamondz, have grown from underground contenders to global ambassadors for the Motor City’s next wave of hip hop. Since 2014, the pair have blended razor-sharp lyricism, boom-bap grit, and funk-driven production into electrifying live performances that earned them Best Hip Hop Group at the Detroit Underground Hip Hop Awards and early national momentum with records like β€œParty In The Hills.”

Their grind intensified with independent touring that included spot dates with Kash Doll and Trina, an international Adidas 40th anniversary Top Ten campaign, and a public co-sign and collaboration from hip-hop legend Redman. BLS has shared stages with elite lyricists including Danny Brown and Method Man, rocked sold-out tributes at Dilla World, and recently tore down London’s iconic Jazz Cafe alongside Onyx during their Return of Boom Bap UK run. In 2025, their anthem β€œRun It Back” opened the Detroit Tigers’ MLB season while β€œBack To Work” soundtracked the NBA Playoffs, cementing their hometown hero status.

Expanding beyond music, BLS also landed a record in Southwest High, the new Tubi series from Same Page Entertainment, founded by Jalen Rose and Tom Gores, executive produced by Dennis Reed and Ty Mopkins. With Let The Fun Begin dropping mid-October and the new EP What’s In My Backpack arriving in mid-March, Black Lion Society’s roar is only getting louder.

KINGDARIUS THEGREAT

A pioneer since his early viral success with C-SIDE’s breakout hit β€œMyspace Freak,” alongside Kenny Kold, and HitJames, KingDarius TheGreat has consistently demonstrated innovation and independence, carving a career that places him alongside industry elites while remaining grounded in authenticity and integrity.
