Tyga unveils a fresh artistic persona, $TARFACE, with the launch of “Gave U Racks”.
This innovative endeavor takes inspiration from 1980s synth-wave, pop, R&B, funk, and cinematic storytelling, aiming to stand apart from his previous work. The debut single and its official music video are now available through Empire.
“I wanted this character and music to live on its own,” Tyga says. “This needed to exist separately, to give me complete freedom creatively.”
$TARFACE departs from a typical Tyga release, offering a fully realized alternate persona set in a fictional early-1980s world. This creation is loosely inspired by the mythology and visual essence of Scarface while spinning an entirely unique narrative.
The project embraces the early-’80s Miami aesthetic, featuring silk tailoring, white suits, vintage luxury, and themes of nightlife, romance, and extravagance.
This 10-track collection includes the song “Lavish” with Fenix Flexin and focuses on vocals, leaning more towards singing than rapping. It utilizes warm analogue synths, pitched vocals, soulful melodies, and vintage production techniques that make it sound as though the music was actually released in 1983 rather than simply drawing from ’80s influences through a modern perspective.
The music video for “Gave U Racks”, filmed in Los Angeles, serves as the visual introduction to $TARFACE. It establishes the look, atmosphere, and identity of this new persona right from the start, becoming part of a broader storyline that will continue to develop throughout the project.
