25 years ago today, the music industry mourned over the passing of R&B and Pop singer Aaliyah at the age of 22.

Aaliyah died in a plane crash in the Bahamas when the small twin-engine #Cessna 402B she was in crashed shortly after takeoff.

The singer who grew up in Detroit started her performing career at just 11 years old, sharing the Las Vegas stage with her aunt, Gladys Knight. At the age of 14, she launched her first album, “Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number”, in 1994, which was recognized with nominations from the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and Soul Train Awards.

Aaliyah’s second album, “One In A Million”, achieved double platinum status after its release in 1996. Her third and final album, “Aaliyah”, came out in 2001 and reached #2 on Billboard.
