Federal prosecutors are intensifying their case against Pooh Shiesty, marking a pivotal development in a high-profile federal prosecution that has drawn significant attention within the hip-hop community.
The case, which allegedly implicates members of Gucci Mane’s 1017 collective, revolves around accusations involving kidnapping and armed robbery.
Prosecutors claim that Pooh Shiesty, along with multiple co-defendants, orchestrated a violent dispute reportedly stemming from contractual and financial disagreements tied to the music industry.
The government asserts that the incident, which unfolded earlier this year during a studio meetup in Texas, involved armed threats, stolen property, and numerous individuals victimized by the ordeal.
Pooh Shiesty faces a range of serious federal charges, including kidnapping, Hobbs Act robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and firearms violations related to the alleged use of weapons during the crime.
The rapper has denied all allegations and entered a not-guilty plea. As the case expands into a complex multi-defendant prosecution, evidence collection has reportedly involved multiple law enforcement agencies.
In recent developments, lawyers representing Pooh Shiesty have successfully petitioned for the case to be designated as legally “complex,” prompting a shift in the trial schedule.
Defense attorneys Dan Cogdell, John Helms, and Kent Schaffer argued that the immense volume of evidence — comprising thousands of investigative documents, digital files, recordings, search warrants, and surveillance materials — is still being thoroughly reviewed. They maintained that more time is necessary to prepare an adequate defense.
Court documents reveal that both prosecution and defense teams have agreed on the need for additional time before proceeding to trial.
The request includes suspending certain Speedy Trial requirements to accommodate this extended preparation period. As a result, this case is shaping up to be one of the most closely followed federal prosecutions involving a rap artist.
