Ray J has faced a significant setback in his legal conflict with Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner.

A Los Angeles County Superior Court judge has rejected Ray J’s motion to dismiss defamation and false light claims brought by Kardashian and Jenner. With this rejection, the case is poised to proceed to trial in May 2028.

This legal tussle originates from Ray J’s public allegations against Kardashian and Jenner. In an October 2025 livestream, he accused them of being under a federal racketeering investigation, hinting that their legal issues could become “more severe than Diddy’s.”

Ray J contended that his remarks were hyperbolized opinions, not factual statements. Furthermore, his legal team argued he was under the impression that the livestream had concluded when he made the comments. However, the judge did not find this argument convincing.

Ray J Encounters Unexpected Obstacles

The court concluded that a reasonable viewer might perceive Ray J’s statements as factual allegations. It also dismissed his defense of being unaware that the livestream was still active.

Ray J’s attorney, Howard King, intends to appeal the decision, asserting that the ruling infringes on Ray J’s First Amendment rights to express opinions about Kardashian and Jenner.

This legal battle is occurring alongside another conflict involving Ray J and Kardashian over their notorious sex tape. According to TMZ, Ray J has accused Kardashian and Jenner of breaching a prior agreement by discussing the tape on their Hulu reality series, prompting him to file counterclaims.

Currently, Kardashian and Jenner’s case remains active, surviving Ray J’s attempt to halt it prematurely. While the ruling does not determine whether Ray J actually defamed either woman, it does permit their claims to move forward toward trial, suggesting more legal challenges ahead for both parties.
