Young Thug has reportedly claimed that he spent $50,000 to boost streams for Gunna’s “DS4EVER” album, ensuring it debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 over The Weeknd’s “Dawn FM” in 2022.
In recent days, leaked phone calls allegedly made by Thug from jail have garnered attention, coinciding with ongoing legal issues and snitching allegations linked to a 2015 incident involving Lil Wayne’s tour bus.
Thugger continues to publicly distance himself from Gunna, who secured release nearly two years earlier through an Alford plea deal in the YSL RICO case in late 2022. Thug remains firm in his belief that Gunna cooperated with authorities at his expense.
One of the leaked calls purportedly features Thug asserting his financial involvement in Gunna’s chart success. Referring to Gunna’s achievement, he said he covered the costs for the streams that propelled the album to the top spot.
“Like, the No. 1 album you just had right now, I paid for you to have the No. 1 album,” he said. ”You didn’t honestly earn a No. 1 album over The Weeknd, my boy. I paid for that sh–. I never said anything to him. I never told him that.”
He continued, “We just got the plug on that. You never earned a No. 1 album. I spent 50 extra grand buying motherf—ing streams for you.”
“DS4EVER” claimed the #1 position on the Billboard 200 in January 2022, following a close contest against The Weeknd’s release. According to Luminate, the album amassed 150,300 equivalent album units in its debut week ending January 13.
