Mase playfully teased Cam’ron over the album cover of his debut project, “Confessions Of Fire”, during a recent episode of their talk show “It Is What It Is”. Known for their lighthearted exchanges, the two Harlem rap icons humorously revisited some questionable style choices from their past.
Mase brought up Cam’ron’s iconic yet unconventional album cover, where a shirtless Cam donned leather overalls while holding a sledgehammer in front of roaring flames. Curious about the creative decision behind it, Mase asked: “Whose Idea was that?”
Cam’ron attributed the look to record executive Lance “Un” Rivera’s vision, explaining how he was convinced to adopt the style. According to Cam, it was pitched as high-fashion courtesy of 5001 Flavors and designed to stand out.
“That was Un’s idea,” he said. “They tried to gas me, say it’s 5001 Flavors, just the look and all that.”
Not one to let the conversation slide, Cam clapped back by highlighting a photoshoot from Mase’s early career. In the image, Mase is seen with his legs extended atop a pole while sporting Air Jordan 4 sneakers. Cam jokingly noted the pose, saying: “But I wasn’t sitting on nobody pole either”.
Mase countered with sharp wit, remarking that being shirtless in leather might actually take the crown for awkwardness.
“You were naked in leather. That might be worse, I don’t know.”
To settle the debate, Cam suggested that the show’s production team display both images side by side and let their audience decide which outfit or pose was more embarrassing.
“Put them side by side. Let the audience take a vote,” Cam’ron added. “The leather or sitting on the pole. I don’t know, Murda, you look comfortable.”
Originally released in July 1998, Cam’ron’s debut album “Confessions Of Fire” reached #6 on the Billboard 200. The project featured collaborations with Mase on “Horse & Carriage” alongside other notable artists such as Usher, Jermaine Dupri, Kelly Price, and Noreaga.
