The cause of death for Nathan Smith, son of Lil Jon, has been officially disclosed.

The 27-year-old passed away in February, and the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed on February 27, that the cause was due to drowning.

The report detailed that his death occurred as a result of “drowning in the setting of psilocybin use” and classified the manner of death as accidental.

Psilocybin, commonly known as magic mushrooms, contains a compound found in some species of fungi that can alter perception, hearing, and the sense of time and space as noted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Interestingly, despite its hallucinogenic properties, research supported by the National Institute on Drug Abuse and other NIH partners investigates its potential therapeutic uses to address substance abuse and mental health disorders.

Nathan Smith, who was also known for producing music under the alias DJ Young Slade, was reported missing on February 3. Authorities located him on February 6 in a pond near his Georgia home.
