Diddy might serve as a vital witness in the upcoming trial related to the murder of rap legend 2Pac, potentially playing a key role in the case against suspected perpetrator Duane “Keefe D” Davis.

As reported by the New York Post, Diddy — currently serving a four-year prison sentence in New Jersey—could provide testimony that might absolve Davis. The case centers around the events leading up to September 7, 1996, when 2Pac was critically injured in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. The rapper succumbed to his injuries six days later.

Authorities allege that Davis, now 62 years old and the uncle of Orlando Anderson, was involved in the fatal attack. Anderson, a known gang member, was allegedly assaulted by 2Pac earlier that night and was reportedly present in the vehicle with Davis when shots were fired at 2Pac, who was traveling in a BMW.

A 2008 recording of Davis, played in the Netflix documentary “Sean Combs: The Reckoning”, sheds light on one of the key claims surrounding this case. In it, Davis alleged that Diddy offered him and his associates $1 million to orchestrate the hit.

At the time of the incident, Diddy’s Bad Boy Records and 2Pac’s label, Death Row Records, were embroiled in a notorious East-West Coast feud that culminated in violent clashes. Just six months after 2Pac’s death, The Notorious B.I.G., one of Bad Boy’s biggest stars and 2Pac’s former friend, was killed in a similar attack in Los Angeles.

Now facing the prospect of life imprisonment, Davis’ legal team insists that testimony from Diddy could strengthen their defense. They argue that if Diddy formally denies bribing Davis — something he has done consistently over the years — it could cast doubt on Davis’ previous admissions.

These earlier claims, including those detailed in his book, portrayed him as directly involved in 2Pac’s murder but were possibly exaggerated for attention and financial gain.

A family friend of Davis shared with the New York Post that Diddy’s involvement as a witness could shift the jury’s perception significantly. They explained that celebrities are often viewed favorably by juries, adding that Diddy’s potential denial of the alleged million-dollar offer could be crucial for Davis’ defense.

Diddy has adamantly denied any involvement in 2Pac’s killing throughout the years.

The trial for Duane “Keefe D” Davis is set to begin on August 10, 2026.
