In the Tupac Shakur murder trial, a jury consisting of six men and ten women has been chosen.
The trial, held in Las Vegas, revolves around Duane “Keefe D” Davis, a former gang leader accused of planning Tupac Shakur’s 1996 murder. While the jury’s demographics remain confidential, potential jurors were asked about their knowledge of Tupac’s music, their opinions on gang-related issues, and their favorite books and movies.
The trial proceedings are set to start with opening statements on Monday. Keefe D, who is 63 years old, faces charges of murder with a deadly weapon, with the additional allegation of intending to assist a criminal gang.
This trial could extend over six weeks and might include testimony from Marion “Suge” Knight, co-founder of Death Row Records, although his participation remains uncertain.
In an interview with ABC News, Suge Knight expressly stated his unwillingness to be involved in the trial, emphasizing his desire to remain uninvolved with Keefe D or the 1996 incident. He strongly warned against being compelled to testify, suggesting negative consequences for those who might attempt it.
Keefe D Pleads Not Guilty
Prosecutors plan to heavily reference Keefe D’s 2019 book, “Compton Street Legend”, wherein he allegedly recounted his role in the murder. Despite this, Keefe D has distanced himself from his book’s claims.
He did previously admit to being in the vehicle that pulled up next to Tupac and Suge at a Las Vegas intersection before the fatal shooting on September 7, 1996. Tupac succumbed to his injuries six days later, on September 13, 1996, at the age of 25.
A conviction could result in life imprisonment for Keefe D.
