Kodak Black, who has a long history of arrests and was sentenced to a three-year prison term on a firearms charge in 2019 before being pardoned by Donald Trump, has been arrested in Florida on charges related to drug trafficking.

The rapper, whose real name is Bill K. Kapri, was taken into custody on May 6 by the Orange County Corrections Department. He faces charges of trafficking MDMA, a substance commonly known as molly or ecstasy.

Bradford Cohen, Kodak’s attorney, described the rapper’s arrest during an interview on Thursday as a “coordinated surrender.”

The charges stem from an incident in November 2025 when law enforcement reportedly discovered a bottle of prescription cough syrup in a bag during a vehicle search.

Kapri’s arrest followed this incident in Orlando, where residents reported hearing gunfire. Police responding to the scene observed a group gathered around parked luxury SUVs, with Kapri among them, according to a report.

An officer noticed a $100 bill inside a Lamborghini with a white residue that smelled of cannabis, providing probable cause to search the vehicle. The search uncovered a pink bag containing a plastic bag of MDMA, $37,000 in cash, and several documents bearing Kapri’s name, as noted in the report.

The pink bag was similar to one featured in a photo from Kapri’s Instagram account. According to the police report, everyone at the scene denied owning the bag.

While the evidence appeared insufficient to warrant a simple possession charge, Cohen claims prosecutors escalated the matter by filing it as a trafficking offense. He also suggested that this move is part of a broader trend of aggressive legal actions targeted at his client.

“We look forward to yet another fruitful resolution to another case that should have never been filed,” Cohen says.

The 28-year-old star entered a written plea of not guilty and asked for a jury trial. He also waived appearing in person at a future arraignment hearing in state court, with his bond set at $75,000.
