Soulja Boy believes he may have influenced Drake’s decision to release three albums simultaneously, suggesting that Drake has, once again, borrowed heavily from his style and approach.
In a recent interview, Soulja was questioned about Drake’s move to drop three projects — “Iceman”, “Habibti”, and “Maid of Honour” — all on the same day.
“To be honest, it could be a coincidence,” he responded. “You gotta ask him. Like, ‘Hey man, did Soulja inspire you?’”
On Halloween 2009, Soulja released three mixtapes titled “Dat Piff”, “Paranormal Activity”, and “Cortez”.
“I don’t know. It’s crazy to see stuff that I did, still being done to this day,” Soulja continued. “That’s hard. I salute it.”
A few days after Drake released “Iceman”, “Habibti”, and “Maid of Honour”, Soulja Boy turned to X to assert that he was the “first rapper to drop three projects in the same day.”
A community comment on Soulja’s post suggests that Gucci Mane was, in fact, the first rapper to achieve this milestone with the release of “The Cold War” trilogy — comprising “Great Brrritain”, “Brrrussia”, and “Guccimerica” — which debuted just weeks earlier on October 17, 2009.
