Young M.A is making her presence felt once more, but she’s clear about one thing — it’s not a comeback.
The Brooklyn-born rapper returned to New York City to promote her upcoming album “Kween” on a significant day, May 21, which also happens to be Biggie’s birthday.
Although Young M.A now resides roughly 800 miles away in Georgia, she says she can still feel the “energy and aura” of the late rap icon whenever she finds herself back in her hometown.

Marking her first release in five years, “Kween” is a deeply personal project for Young M.A, even lending its name to one of her tattoos—a crown and the word ‘Kween’ etched above her left eyebrow.
The album comes a full decade after the artist burst onto the music scene with her hit track “OOOUUU,” which climbed into the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and cemented her place in the concrete jungle’s thriving hip-hop legacy.
Since then, much has transpired. Young M.A spent years out of the public eye, navigating personal challenges and a serious health scare. In 2023, she faced a difficult period of hospitalization due to liver complications stemming from alcohol use.
Today, however, she has turned a new page — sober, healthier, and ready to reconnect with her artistry and audience.
“I had a time in my life where I consumed a little bit too much alcohol and it put me in a bad physical state. I was on the edge, like real close,” she told Billboard. “I tapped with God and I got angels protecting me. I was able to fight through it.”
