6 years ago today, MF DOOM died on October 31, 2020, at the age of 49.
MF DOOM, the masked marvel whose imagination, intricate wordplay and sound reshaped underground hip-hop. Born Daniel Dumile, he built a universe: mysterious, witty, unpredictable and packed with layers that rewarded every listen.
From the cult classic “Operation: Doomsday” to the groundbreaking “Madvillainy”, the UK rapper proved that greatness never needs to follow the rules. His unconventional flows, inventive samples, surreal storytelling and razor-sharp punchlines made him one of #rap’s most original voices. Behind the metal mask was an artist who turned anonymity into mythology and made every verse feel like a puzzle worth solving.
DOOM died on October 31, 2020, aged 49. An inquest heard that he suffered a severe reaction to blood-pressure medication, known as angioedema, which caused swelling in his throat and tongue and obstructed his breathing. The resulting lack of oxygen contributed to his death.
May he rest in peace and his legacy continue to be remembered.
