Chris Brown has been in the spotlight recently due to a civil lawsuit filed by his former housekeeper, Maria Avila, who claims she was attacked by one of his dogs, resulting in severe physical and emotional harm.
Avila also accused Brown of not calling 911 when she was in need of immediate help. During the trial, it came out that Brown chose to leave the scene out of fear that the 911 call might be leaked to the public.
Instead, someone from his team had to handle the call for emergency services. This detail did not work in Brown’s favor when the jury reached their verdict.
As reported by TMZ, Brown was held responsible for Avila’s injuries. While she had initially sought $90 million in damages, the jury ultimately decided to award her over $13 million.
A couple of weeks ago, the civil suit was declared a mistrial after one of the jurors searched for case information online, an absolute breach of jury protocol. Despite this setback, the court quickly assembled a new jury.
The case resumed later that week, and by Tuesday evening, the jury reached a decision. The verdict indicates that Brown behaved in a negligent and inhumane way towards Avila.
Avila was visibly emotional on the stand, highlighting the significant emotional impact this ordeal has had on her. With this ruling, there’s hope she can start to find some peace.
