A suspect in the murder of rapper Foolio has alleged that diss tracks released by the artist led to his grandmother suffering a heart attack.
On the sixth day of the Foolio murder trial, held Thursday (October 30), prosecutors presented interrogation footage of defendant Davion Murphy, who was arrested in January of last year.
During the questioning, Murphy revealed how Foolio’s music targeting his friends and relatives deeply impacted his family.
“My auntie was depressed, bedridden,” Murphy told the investigator. “My grandma caught a heart attack behind the songs that he was making. Corben mama couldn’t walk out of her house without seeing somebody in the public…You know how they do. ‘Where’s Corben?’ Somebody pissed on my cousin grave. You gotta feel that.”
Prosecutors aim to underscore potential motives for the killing by showcasing Murphy’s testimony. In another video shown to the jury, Murphy was seen mimicking the act of shooting a rifle when left alone in the interrogation room.
Murphy is among four men — alongside Isaiah Chance, Sean Gathright, and Rashad Murphy — facing trial for the 2024 murder of Foolio, a Jacksonville, Florida rapper. Authorities believe the homicide stems from ongoing gang-related conflicts.
Last November, a fifth person implicated in the crime, Andrews, was found guilty of manslaughter. Although her sentencing was originally set for January, it has been delayed.
