Prosecutors have raised concerns about rapper Big30, claiming he poses a flight risk linked to a pending record label contract.
According to a Rolling Loud report dated Wednesday (April 15), prosecutors filed a motion on April 13 in the District Court for the Northern District of Texas (Dallas Division).
The motion seeks to overturn a previous decision by a Tennessee judge that allowed Big30 to be released on a $100,000 bond.
The rapper, whose real name is Rodney Lamont Wright Jr., is considered a potential flight risk due to reports of a lucrative seven-figure record deal in progress with Connect Music Group.
During an April 6 hearing in Tennessee, Kemario Brown, Senior Vice President at NLess Entertainment, revealed that Big30 was in the final stages of negotiating a deal involving two albums — one guaranteed and another optional — with Connect Music Group.
According to Brown, under the terms of the contract, Big30 would have around 145 days from the signing date to complete his first album. Defense lawyers argue that fulfilling these contractual commitments would ensure Big30 remains within jurisdiction and is available to face trial.
Meanwhile, prosecutors asserted that the financial gains from this potential agreement would give the Memphis rapper access to significant resources, enabling him to flee if he chooses. Thus, they insist this strengthens their case for keeping him in custody.
Court documents shared by Dallas journalist Bryson Paul add further weight to the prosecution’s argument. These documents outlined additional reasons for concern, including charges of kidnapping and conspiracy to commit kidnapping against Big30.
Furthermore, his alleged possession of multiple firearms during his arrest on March 30, coupled with his reported ties to the Grape Street Crips gang, are cited as further evidence supporting detention until trial.
The decision now rests with Texas District Court Judge Ed Kinkeade, who will determine whether the Tennessee magistrate’s bond ruling will stand or if Big30 will remain in federal custody.
Big30’s legal troubles are unfolding in the wake of another high-profile case involving Pooh Shiesty. A federal judge in Texas recently ordered Pooh Shiesty to remain in custody following allegations of his involvement in an armed robbery and kidnapping incident dating back to January 10.
Among the victims of that case is reportedly fellow rapper Gucci Mane.
