2Pac’s iconic track “Brenda’s Got A Baby” was based on a real-life incident — and the story has taken an unexpected continuation.

The legendary rapper wrote the song to shed light on teen pregnancy in underprivileged communities while working on his breakout role as Bishop in the film “Juice”.

The inspiration came from a news story about a 12-year-old girl who, after being impregnated by her 21-year-old cousin, tragically discarded her baby down a trash chute. The song has since become one of Tupac Shakur’s most impactful pieces in his vast musical legacy.

During a recent appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show” to promote his book “Only God Can Judge Me: The Many Lives Of Tupac Shakur”, bestselling author Pearlman dropped an intriguing revelation.

When asked if anyone avoided speaking with him during the book’s research, he mentioned: “I didn’t get Dr. Dre or Snoop Dogg, but they’re hard to get anyway. I did find most people. The vast majority. Classmates, people who worked with him in music, even Death Row employees were pretty open about talking.”

Pearlman then disclosed an early breakthrough in his research.

He tracked down the man who originally discovered the baby in the trash chute and interviewed him. This led to further conversations with Leila Steinberg, described as a former associate manager or confidant of Tupac. During their discussion, Steinberg expressed curiosity about the veracity of the baby story and wondered what ultimately became of the child — prompting Pearlman to launch his own investigation.

To aid his search, Pearlman enlisted genealogist Michele Soulli. Not long after, she identified a Las Vegas resident named Davonn Hodge as the child at the center of the story.

When Pearlman met Hodge, it was revealed that Davonn had recently reconnected with some relatives using Ancestry.com. However, his biological mother was not part of that reunion. Pearlman turned to Soulli again for help locating her. After several days, Soulli managed to contact a woman living in Newark, New Jersey, who turned out to be Davonn’s mother.

What unfolded next was remarkable.

The woman was overcome with emotion upon learning that she had been found. She explained to Soulli that she needed to travel back to New York City to reunite with her child. However, when asked where she currently was, the woman surprised everyone by revealing that she was in Las Vegas for a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert.

That very night, after 34 long years apart, mother and son finally reunited in Las Vegas.
